Hygge Your Home

Originating from Denmark, hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) is a concept centred around cosiness, contentment, and the simple joys of life. “Hygge: The Danish Art of Happiness” explores this cultural phenomenon, offering insights into including hygge principles in your daily routine. From creating inviting spaces to soaking up moments of comfort with loved ones, it reveals how embracing hygge can foster a greater sense of well-being and a deeper appreciation for life’s little pleasures.

Candles

Nothing is nicer than settling down for the night after a long day, turning down the lights, getting cosy on the couch, and lighting your favourite candle to fill your room with warmth and soothing scents. Arcadia, a homegrown UAE brand, helps make your home a sanctuary with its 100% eco-friendly candles, which come in an array of natural scents.

Blankets

Even if you live in the warmest climates, it’s always nice to have some throws around your house for decoration in case you need a little warmth. The AC in Dubai is unavoidable in summer, and you can never quite get the temperature right; on top of work sometimes being a little intense, you’ll likely appreciate a soft and comforting blanket at some point.

Tea

Known for its soothing qualities and sometimes with health benefits, there isn’t much a hot cup of chai can’t make better, whether you like the green variety, which is said to aid weight loss, or a traditional English breakfast while in bed. If you drink in peace, they’re all helpful in bringing some hygge into your home. We love Haiya Tea, a local brand of Artisanal blends that even includes low caffeine and matcha options. Yum!

Plants

Plants can be decorative and helpful if you choose some that have air-purifying qualities, like the peace lily. Being amongst nature is one of the most natural ways to induce calm, so bring a little into your home and see if it works for you.

Cushions

Whacky patterns or a touch of colour cushions can spruce up an old couch and give it a new lease of life if you opt for extra fluffy ones. We’re fans of overloading ours with different shapes and sizes and diving in after a long day; there’s no carefully placing out the way at our house. Pottery Barn has an amazing selection of all shapes and sizes with premium fabrics and fillings, and Home Centre has fantastic quality bargains.
