Roast Dinners to try in Dubai that all Serve Traditional English Pies, too
Having a roast dinner is our favourite thing to fill our tummies and a Sunday afternoon. We’ve tried many in Dubai, but only a few hit the spot quite like my mum’s.
Duck Hook
This one is in Dubai Hills Golf Club and has a huge outdoor space with wooden tables that take you to a sunny English pub garden. You can choose from lamb, beef, chicken, and vegan. The portions are enormous and come with roasties, mash, root vegetables, and red cabbage on the side. The beef option arrives with a Yorkshire filled with pulled beef and the chicken little sausages wrapped in beef bacon. There’s a stream of guests all day Sunday, so although there might be a little wait, you can guarantee your food is all freshly made. We sometimes have the steak pie instead, and it’s fully encased in short-crust pastry, filled with huge chunks of meat, and comes with many potato choices, including fat chips and mash. If you have a dog, it’s also one of the many dog-friendly places where you can dine with your furry friend in Dubai.
Toad in the Hole
Inside Top Golf this place is another busy one as they have a group offer. When four roast dinners are ordered, you get a free 1 hour in a Top Golf booth. The portions are even bigger than Duck Hook, and all the sides, including all the regulars but also cabbage, swede carrot mash and cauliflower cheese, are all served in separate dishes, so if you’ve not got a big appetite, it’s a great roast to share. If you’re also a fan of pies, you’ll need to ask for the weekly specials meaning you can try something new time and there are some yummy vegetarian and vegan dishes to try including a nut roast.
The Coterie
Hidden inside Ibn Battuta Mall, this one is hard to find but worth visiting. The beef was some of the best we have ever had; it melted in the mouth and was served in extra-thin slices. In a similar plating style to Toad in the Hole, the sides that include vegetables, stuffing balls and cauliflower cheese arrive separately, so it’s another good option for sharing. There is a beef pie on the menu to rival Duck Hook, but it has a lighter pastry that’s equally delicious, just a little smaller. The vegan roast is also huge and is packed with two beyond sausages and loads of veggie sides!
